A 71-year-old woman has reportedly died following a surgical mistake at the Banaras Hindu University trauma center. The woman's family alleges that a procedure intended for a spinal tumor was mistakenly conducted on her thigh.
Identified as Radhika Devi from Amritpur, she was admitted on February 25 for spinal cord tumor treatment. Her grandson, Mrityunjay Pal, stated that the surgery was scheduled for March 7 but was executed incorrectly, leading to severe complications that ultimately claimed her life on March 27.
The Institute of Medical Sciences Director, M N Shankhwar, confirmed that a complaint has been lodged, prompting the formation of a four-member committee to investigate. Further actions will follow pending the committee's findings.
