Global health experts, policymakers, and organizations have urgently called for improved diagnostics to tackle the gaps in dengue treatment. This comes as South Asia and South-East Asia brace for monsoon-related dengue surges, highlighting the absence of specific therapeutics that leave millions vulnerable.
The call was part of a dialogue organized by the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative in collaboration with global health partners. The event underscored the need for a comprehensive response to dengue, especially with India reporting substantial cases and embarking on vaccine trials and public-private partnerships.
Despite progress in surveillance and scientific understanding, patients continue to lack specific treatments, raising concerns about the disease's wider economic and social impacts. Experts stress the need for an integrated approach, involving diagnostics, vaccines, therapeutics, and resilient health systems.
