The Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission has launched an investigation into disruptions affecting the Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS), citing potential human rights violations due to denied medical services for state employees.
The commission's order, dated May 1, highlights serious implementation lapses, with hospitals and chemist services reportedly refusing service to scheme beneficiaries. Pending payments of approximately Rs 2,200 crore over the past eight to nine months are largely to blame for this crisis.
Denial of timely healthcare poses fundamental human rights concerns, prompting the commission to issue notices to the finance and health departments, as well as RGHS authorities and the Indian Medical Association, Jaipur, for factual reports. All parties are urged to collaborate to ensure continuous healthcare delivery, with further hearings scheduled for May 20, 2026.
