Hantavirus Alert: Cruise Ship Evacuation Amid Health Concerns

Three patients with suspected hantavirus cases have been evacuated from the MV Hondius cruise ship, heading for the Netherlands. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus assured that the overall public health risk remains low, while the organization's collaboration with the Dutch ship continues to ensure safety and monitoring.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Wednesday that three patients suspected of carrying the hantavirus were evacuated from a cruise ship affected by the virus. The individuals are being transported to the Netherlands for further examination.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus communicated that the UN health agency is actively cooperating with the Dutch-flagged MV Hondius cruise ship's operators to vigilantly track the health conditions of its passengers and crew.

Despite the evacuations, Tedros emphasized that the current public health risk is low and reassured the public through his social media platform, X. The WHO continues to oversee the situation to prevent further contagion.
