The Allahabad High Court has mandated a thorough investigation into allegations of unethical private practice by doctors at Prayagraj's Moti Lal Nehru Medical College. This directive comes as a response to deteriorating conditions at the associated Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, not due to budget deficits, but because of doctors reportedly prioritizing private engagements.
Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal's bench criticized professionals, including professors and lecturers, for establishing private clientele and medical services parallel to their official duties. The court ordered that updates on the inquiry be submitted by May 26, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability within the medical fraternity.
The chief secretary is tasked with the progress monitoring of ongoing construction projects at SRN Hospital, criticized for delays despite state funding. An FIR against Dr. Santosh Kumar Singh for owning a private establishment highlights the broader issue of doctors' private practices undermining public health services.
