In a move to maintain stability in medical education governance, Dr. Abhijat Sheth has been re-nominated as the president of the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) for a third consecutive term. This announcement was confirmed through a Union Health Ministry notification.

The NBEMS plays a crucial role in conducting postgraduate and postdoctoral medical examinations such as NEET-PG and is responsible for overseeing diplomate and fellowship programs throughout India. The re-appointments will officially take effect from June 16, 2026, lasting one year or until a new governing body is established.

Joining Dr. Sheth in this continuity of leadership is Dr. Rakesh Sharma, also re-nominated for a third term. Other key appointments include AIIMS Director Dr. Nikhil Tandon as vice president and several high-profile representatives from different medical science sectors, ensuring experienced oversight and sustained excellence in the board's operations.
