Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to strike the final blow against drug abuse and help dismantle the narco-terror network to save the young generation from addiction.

The LG-led 100-day 'Nasha Mukt J-K Abhiyaan' reached the south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Tuesday, as Sinha led a huge padyatra and vowed to end the drug scourge in the Union territory.

''Today, I joined people's movement against drugs in Pulwama and addressed the citizens. I urged my brothers and sisters to strike the final blow against drug abuse, so together we dismantle the narco-terror network and save our young generation from addiction,'' the LG said in a post on X.

He said in the past month since the campaign began on April 11, Jammu Kashmir has witnessed public spirit awaken.

''In Baramulla, I saw thousands raising their voices against drugs. Similarly, in Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, Kathua, Srinagar and other districts I saw young people and parents resolutely committed to this fight,'' he added.

The campaign began in Jammu on April 11 with a massive padyatra (foot march) led by the LG from the M A Stadium.

The LG led a similar padyatra in the Lal Chowk area of Srinagar city on May 3 as well as in other districts.

Last week, the J-K Police chief Nalin Prabhat said there has been a nearly seven-fold increase in the number of NDPS cases registered by the police in the last month.

He said, ''806 persons have been arrested who were involved in 724 cases. The significant arrests made in this regard are Gulzar Ahmad, alias Lau Gujjar, who was wanted in 28 cases. He has been recently arrested by Jammu Police.''.

Similarly, Avneet Singh, alias Nagi, who was wanted in 17 cases of Jammu province, has also been apprehended recently, Prabhat said.

He said the police has seized over 667 Kgs of narcotics during the campaign so far.
