Health authorities have been alerted as the African swine flu has crossed over into parts of Vietnam that border Cambodia's Ratanakkiri and Kratie provinces. The General Directorate of Animal Health and Production Tan Phannara said he has received information from animal feed companies and animal raising associations that outbreaks of African swine fever in Vietnam were getting closer to Cambodia. Phannara said he has alerted the officials in the two provinces.

In February, Vietnam became the third Asian country, after China and Mongolia to report outbreaks of African swine fever. According to reports, Vietnam's $10 billion pork industry has been hit and has threatened future pig exports.

Meanwhile, Taiwan, Dubai, the US and UK have banned pork imports from Vietnam as 17 provinces have reported outbreaks of the swine fever. It does not harm humans but is deadly to pigs. Moreover, there is no cure and vaccine for it.

In 2017, China slaughtered about 700 million pigs due to the outbreak.
