Rwanda's Ministry of Health has urged the citizens to undergo screening for tuberculosis at the early stages. The government ensures that early treatment and precaution will reduce the number of sudden deaths associated with the disease.

According to Director General of Rwanda Biomedical Centre, Dr. Jeannine Condo, albeit much has already been done, there is still a long way to go to achieve the set target of reducing tuberculosis-related deaths by 90 percent and new incidence by 80 percent by 2035.

"We still have 20 percent of tuberculosis patients who don't go to hospital for treatment and they end up infecting others in their communities. We still have tuberculosis patients who don't take their drugs as prescribed, and they don't heal," she opined.

Even the efforts of government of Rwanda in this arena have highly been extolled by Dr. Jules Mugabo, who represents the World Health Organization. Dr. Mugabo said that this was the time to strategize the plans what could be done in reaching targets set on the national and global levels.
