Ethiopian Public Health Institute gets financial assistance from World Bank, IMF

On Friday, the World Bank Group approved an amount of USD 150 million to support the Ethiopian Public Health Institute.
The fund will be utilized for the construction of the state-of-the-art biosafety level lab, fully equipped 15 BSL II lab in all regions and to equip the existing 8 regional labs. According to the Minister of Health, Dr Amir Aman, the money will be utilized to strengthen national public health emergency management and national and regional data management systems, among others.
The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed has revealed that the International Monetary Fund has declared USD 2.9 billion financial assistance to Ethiopia. He revealed in his Facebook page that the money would be utilized to finance the implementation of the recently launched home-grown economic reform.
The International Monetary Fund is poised to approve landmark around USD 3 billion loan for Ethiopia. Eyob Tekalign Tolina, the State Minister of Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance disclosed on Wednesday that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund decided to provide a total of USD 6 billion to support Ethiopian government’s economic reform.
