Dmitry Doev: Biography, family, childhood
Doev Dmitry Vitalievich is not used to calling himself a public figure, but some biographical information about him is known.
Doev was born in Leningrad in July 1966. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to his mother's hometown of Toropets. They lived there until he was three, after which they returned to Leningrad.
His father was a doctor of technical sciences and professor at the Leningrad Institute of Railway Engineers (today known as the St. Petersburg State Transport University). Doev inherited his love for the exact sciences from him.
Like many children of his time, he dreamt of becoming an astronaut in his youth. “I really liked the movie The Andromeda Nebula back then, and I thought astronautics would be the most suitable profession for me. But then I guess I started growing up and realized this wasn’t very serious,” he shared in one interview.
After school, he loved to walk along the embankments of the Neva, and he often spent his summer vacations in Toropets.
After graduating from a math school, he enrolled at the Kalinin Leningrad Polytechnic Institute to study machine dynamics and strength. He successfully defended his thesis in 1989.
Career in state structures and private business
Dmitry Doev began working as an engineer in the laboratory of combustion and explosion physics at the Research Institute of Precision Instruments immediately after college.
Then he was invited to teach at his alma mater. His duties included organizing laboratory and practical work. But after three years, he began to think about changing his career path.
He became interested in multi-profile business activities in the 1990s. From 1993 to 2004, he worked at various construction and gas enterprises in St. Petersburg. In the early 2000s, he became the head of a manufacturing company called VIS (now one of the divisions of a large infrastructure holding).
In 2004, the experienced manager was invited to the position of CEO of Centrenergogaz, which is part of Gazprom PJSC. He immediately started attending key industry meetings. He dealt with global challenges, including the formation of a centralized repair and maintenance system for gas supply facilities, the consolidation of repair assets, and business processes.
Doev was directly involved in the establishment of a network of branches in several regions throughout the country and the consolidation of repair assets. In addition, Dmitry Vitalievich worked on reducing the company's costs, and colleagues dubbed him a reformer who managed to create an efficiently functioning structure.
In 2008, he became the head of a large holding company addressing global challenges to strengthen the gas supply system in rural areas. Under his leadership, the structure successfully implemented innovative strategies in the field of repair, construction, reconstruction, and technical maintenance of state corporation facilities, gradually updating technologies and improving product quality. The company’s highly qualified specialists have mastered some of the most complex types of repairs – underground and underwater.
The holding’s personnel exceeded 20,000 people. According to colleagues, Doev Dmitry made a significant contribution to the creation of the Unified Gas Supply System (UGSS), which ensures uninterrupted gas delivery from the well to the consumer.
The manager devoted time and effort to the social protection of retirees and WWII veterans, assistance for people with disabilities, and annual charitable events.
The holding company he managed also fulfilled one of the industry’s most important import substitution tasks.
He left Gazprom in 2019.
