A shooting at former US President Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday has sparked concerns over political violence and revived memories of past assassination attempts on US leaders, CBS News reported. The incident has increased awareness of the frequency and impact of such attacks.

Citing the Congressional Research Service, CBS News noted that there have been 15 direct attacks on US presidents, including four assassinations. Among the 46 individuals who served as President, 13 were subjected to assassination attempts. Prominent survivors include Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.

The FBI identified the assailant as Thomas Matthew Crooks, and an investigation is ongoing, CNN reported. Trump has publicly thanked law enforcement for their swift response and offered condolences to the victims' families. The incident has renewed debates on the safety of political figures in the US.
