Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, will apply for the prestigious post of Chancellor at Oxford University, as confirmed by his adviser on international affairs, Sayed Zulfi Bukhari. Bukhari disclosed the information to Geo News, stating the position became vacant following the resignation of Lord Patten after 21 years of service.

Khan, an alumnus of Oxford, intends to run for the position despite being held in Adiala Jail on multiple charges, including corruption and incitement of violence. Competing against Khan are former UK Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Boris Johnson, who seek the same role.

Khan, who studied Economics and Politics at Keble College, Oxford, in 1972, also captained the university's cricket team and debuted for Pakistan's Test cricket team in 1971. He previously served as the Chancellor of Bradford University from 2005 to 2014, per Geo News. Bukhari highlighted the public demand for Khan's candidacy, stating a signature campaign will commence upon receiving Khan's approval.

“We will announce it publicly once we get the go-ahead from Khan and start the signature campaign for it. He's the most suited person right now for this post and we hope he will win the contest. We await approval from Khan and the campaign will begin,” Bukhari said. The Chancellor of Oxford University is a ceremonial head, presiding over significant events, with selections made by the Convocation, comprising former students and retired staff.
