In the wake of a police crackdown on Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) supporters during a sit-in at Islamabad's D-Chowk, district authorities have permitted the party to hold a protest on Murree Road for up to three days, ARY News reported. The sit-in, sanctioned after negotiations, aims to avoid traffic disruption.

Furthermore, JI has consolidated its protests from various locations across Islamabad to Murree Road. Party chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman is set to address the demonstrators, assuring them about the discussions held with the administration, according to ARY News.

The protest, driven by issues like increased power tariffs and inflated electricity bills, saw earlier demands for JI supporters to vacate D-Chowk. This directive came in after several supporters were arrested, prompting Information Minister Att Tarar to call for dialogue with the JI leadership via a three-member government committee.

According to JI spokesperson Qaiser Sharif, approximately 500 JI workers were detained under what he described as 'police terrorism,' with police allegedly invading homes and arresting guests during the crackdowns.
