Ignored Infrastructure Stifles Potential Tourism Boom in Gilgit Baltistan

Gilgit Baltistan’s tourism potential suffers due to poor infrastructure, with locals frustrated over decaying roads and inadequate facilities. Despite repeated pleas from residents and business owners, the administration's inaction has left the region's economic aspirations unfulfilled.

Gilgit Baltistan, celebrated for its stunning natural beauty, remains off-limits to many tourists and locals alike due to substandard road conditions. Decades of neglect from the administration in Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB) have left infrastructure in shambles, causing mounting frustration among residents.

Restaurant owner Asif Gohar underscored the severe impact of crumbling roads and inadequate facilities on tourism. 'The main issues are related to the roads and poor hotel facilities. We made the same appeal to the previous government. The poor infrastructure discourages tourists from returning,' Gohar stated.

Although the region has immense potential as a tourist destination, these challenges limit visitor numbers. Gohar believes improved infrastructure could boost tourism significantly. 'If the government enhances roads and facilities, tourism will thrive in Gilgit Baltistan. Right now, the poor road conditions deter tourists,' he added.

Residents accuse politicians of making empty promises during election season, only to fail in implementing real improvements. The government's inaction has stymied the region's economic growth. As locals continue to demand better infrastructure, it remains uncertain if their calls will spark concrete action from the administration. (ANI)
