External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday emphasized the critical need for trusted international partnerships at the Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting in Tokyo. Jaishankar underscored that such partnerships are vital for ensuring global and regional stability.
'It's very good to meet again here in Tokyo. Our last Quad foreign ministers meeting was ten months ago in New York,' Jaishankar said. 'In that period, we have met bilaterally or on the sidelines of various events, with our systems continuously interacting. There is much to discuss, agree on, and plan ahead.'
Jaishankar highlighted the Quad's commitment to global welfare extending beyond the region. 'The Quad is here to stay, to act, and to grow,' he noted. He stressed the importance of political understanding, economic partnerships, technology collaboration, and stronger people-to-people connections.
'These are challenging times, and ensuring global economic growth is complex,' Jaishankar added. 'Our focus remains on resilient supply chains and transparent digital partnerships. The ongoing advancements in technology are reshaping our world in significant ways.'
The minister emphasized collective efforts to safeguard against disruptions, whether man-made or natural. 'Our collaboration is crucial for maintaining a free, open, stable, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific,' he said.
The Quad's objective is to support an open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region. The meeting will address regional and international issues and guide future collaboration to realize a shared vision for the Indo-Pacific.
