The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates announced on Tuesday a significant initiative to evacuate 85 ailing Palestinians, including cancer patients, and 63 family members from Israel's Ramon airport to Abu Dhabi via the Karam Abu Salem crossing. The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to support Gaza's residents during this critical time.
The initiative underscores the country's urgent mission to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. 'This unprecedented route reflects the gravity of the situation and our resolute commitment to support Gaza,' said Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation. To date, 709 patients and 787 family members from Gaza have received medical treatment in the UAE following directives from President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
World Health Organization Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed gratitude towards the UAE for facilitating the evacuation. He emphasized the need for establishing evacuation corridors through all possible routes, including to Egypt and Jordan, and restoring access to the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Till date, the UAE has delivered over 40,000 tonnes of aid, including food and medical supplies, through various means, marking a significant humanitarian effort. The latest shipment to Al-Arish included 5,340 tonnes of supplies, the largest since the relief operations began, the statement reported.
