British MP John McDonnell has put forward a resolution condemning the violent response by Pakistani security forces to a peaceful rally held by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) in Gwadar, Balochistan. The resolution sheds light on the assembly's objective to seek justice for missing persons in the region, as reported by The Balochistan Post.

Leaders and demonstrators at the rally experienced harassment, detention, and violent dispersal, with Pakistani authorities also cutting off internet access to limit the spread of information about the event. The resolution demands that the Pakistani government restore internet services and provide details on detained, injured, missing, or deceased individuals.

Furthermore, it criticizes the use of force against peaceful protesters and urges the government to refrain from such actions in the future. The BYC's Baloch National Gathering aimed to highlight critical human rights issues. Thousands of attendees faced a harsh crackdown, resulting in several deaths and numerous arrests. Balochistan remains one of Pakistan's least developed regions despite its rich natural resources, often leading to feelings of marginalization among the local population.

Human rights abuses such as extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and torture persist in the region. The political landscape is fraught with separatist sentiments and demands for greater autonomy. Baloch nationalist groups argue that the local population should benefit more from the region's resources.
