Taiwan has dismissed China's labeling of a fishing boat incident as "malicious." The incident took place in February when a Chinese fishing speedboat trespassed into Taiwanese waters, resulting in the deaths of two Chinese fishermen. Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) confirmed that both countries have agreed on compensation for the grieving families.
The consensus comes after months of negotiations and includes the return of the bodies and the vessel to the families. The event has strained relations, with China accusing Taiwan's Coast Guard of "brutal and dangerous" behavior. However, Taipei maintains that their actions were lawful and in accordance with established protocols.
Recently, Taiwan's MAC Deputy Head Liang Wen-chieh stated that this issue is now resolved, praising the goodwill shown by both parties. He emphasized the need to avoid future tensions, despite China's patrols around the disputed area and controversial statements labeling the incident a "malicious collision."
