External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar remarked on Friday that rising nationalism is influencing global dynamics, leading to independence, growth, and a multipolar world. Speaking at the 7th Jasjit Singh Memorial Lecture in New Delhi, he urged India to assess global events and make decisions that align with its national interests due to existing global frictions.

Jaishankar stressed that nationalism is crucial for future global interactions, despite some nations perceiving it negatively. He countered that many developed societies, burdened by geopolitical and economic issues, are frustrated with old globalization doctrines. This contrasts with the developing world, which views nationalism as a vehicle for progress.

He called for India to critically evaluate global happenings and take actions that serve its interests. This involves sometimes making autonomous decisions and at other times finding common ground with like-minded countries. He also mentioned India's growing role as the fifth largest global economy, likely to become the third, emphasizing the nation's responsibility to contribute to global stability.
