Jamaat-e-Islami Demand Action on Electricity Prices Amid Massive Protests

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JI) chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to reduce electricity prices to prevent escalating protests. Addressing sit-ins in Karachi, he warned of nationwide blockades if demands remain unmet. The protest, now a mass movement, calls for addressing public grievances urgently.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, the chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JI), has called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to urgently reduce electricity prices, according to a report by The Express Tribune. Speaking at a gathering during a sit-in outside the Governor House in Karachi, he emphasized the immediate need to address public demands to prevent a crisis.

Naeem-ur-Rehman declared that the Jamaat-e-Islami movement aims to oust oppressive rulers, warning of further protests in Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta, as well as highway blockades if their demands are ignored. He outlined a seven-point agenda for their campaign and stressed the legitimate rights of the people, demanding realistic electricity pricing and billing.

He threatened that if the authorities fail to act, the movement could escalate into a campaign to remove the government. He criticized the government's negotiation team for mixed messages and insisted that JI is prepared to sustain their protests for as long as necessary. JI Karachi Chief Munim Zafar Khan and Vice President Liaqat Baloch highlighted widespread public support, including traders, youth, and industrialists, stressing the importance of addressing the issues raised by the movement.
