North Korea has introduced a new tactical ballistic missile system, state media outlet KCNA reported on August 4. The unveiling ceremony in Pyongyang was overseen by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, according to Yonhap news agency, which cited KCNA.

The Korean Central News Agency disclosed that 250 new tactical ballistic missile launchers, referred to as 'pivot military hardware', were rolled out, with photos indicating the system as the 'Hwasong-11' launcher. These launchers are set to be positioned near the military demarcation line with South Korea, Yonhap noted.

In his address to the troops, Kim Jong Un commented on the evolving US-led military alliance, stating that it has transformed into a nuclear-based bloc. He emphasized Pyongyang's commitment to enhancing its nuclear readiness to deter threats and protect against any challenges. This ceremony occurs against the backdrop of recent floods in North Korea.

Last month, North Korea confirmed the test firing of its new tactical missile, in response to the 'Freedom Edge' military drills conducted by the United States, South Korea, and Japan. In June, a joint statement by the United States, Japan, and South Korea strongly opposed any unilateral changes to the Indo-Pacific status quo and condemned North Korea's ballistic missile launches.

The statement followed a meeting between US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell, Japan's Vice Foreign Minister Masataka Okano, and South Korea's Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong Kyun in Little Washington, Virginia. At the Quad meeting in July, leaders from Australia, India, the United States, and Japan denounced North Korea's actions that violate UN Security Council resolutions.

'We condemn North Korea's destabilizing launches using ballistic missile technology and its ongoing pursuit of nuclear weapons in violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions. We are gravely concerned about North Korea's proliferation activities, malicious cyber behavior, and the use of overseas workers to fund its illegal weapons programs,' read the joint statement. Meanwhile, during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to Pyongyang on June 19, Russia and North Korea signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, pledging immediate military assistance if either party is attacked.
