The German Air Force is set to conduct joint training exercises with the Indian Air Force for the first time, according to German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann. The exercises, named Tarang Shakti-2024, will commence at Air Force Station Sulur in Tamil Nadu on August 6. In a statement, Ackermann described the event as 'a truly historic moment,' marking Germany's debut in flying on Indian soil.
This extensive multilateral exercise aims to deepen security and political ties between Germany, India, and the region. 'We are working on a security and defense partnership between our countries,' Ackermann added. Lieutenant General and Inspector of the German Air Force highlighted the significance of the event, stating, 'Tarang Shakti is our first exercise with the Indian Air Force in India.'
The French Air and Space Force will also participate, bringing three Rafale fighter jets, one Multirole Tanker Transport aircraft, and an A400M, supported by 160 personnel. The French contingent's participation is part of a broader mission across the Indo-Pacific region. The mission aims to demonstrate France's commitment to regional sovereignty and multilateralism, stopping in 13 partner nations and participating in three major exercises, including Tarang Shakti.
