India and Israel Establish Center for Water Technology at IIT Madras
India and Israel signed a joint statement to set up a Center of Water Technology at IIT Madras, aiming to innovate sustainable urban water solutions. This cooperation highlights combined efforts to address water management issues in India.

India and Israel signed a joint statement on Tuesday to establish a Center of Water Technology at IIT Madras in Chennai. The agreement, involving the Embassy of Israel, IIT Madras, and the AMRUT mission of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, aims to tackle water management challenges in India.
The Center of Water Technology is envisioned as a hub for innovation, research, and capacity-building in water technologies, with a focus on sustainable urban water solutions. To launch the initiative, IIT Madras hosted a capacity-building course on '24/7 Water Supply in Urban Areas' from August 5 to 8, 2024.
Naor Gilon, Israel's Ambassador to India, emphasized that this collaboration underscores the shared commitment to solving water scarcity issues. 'The establishment of the Center of Water Technology at IIT Madras highlights our strong partnership, and we are eager to develop innovative solutions that will benefit millions in India,' Gilon stated. The Embassy of Israel reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing cooperation in water technology, anticipating the center to play a significant role in achieving sustainable water supply nationwide.
The Center aims for mutual exchange of technology, scientific information, and expert consultations from both countries. Additionally, joint projects on integrated water resources management, urban water supply, IoT solutions, smart data management, and other advanced technologies are planned to demonstrate cutting-edge innovations in the water sector.
