Members of the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh held a demonstration outside the Jamuna State Guest House in Dhaka, where Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus is staying, to protest recent violence against them. Protestors displayed posters of missing family members amid heightened security.

Prof Yunus, who recently reached out to the Hindu community, convened a meeting with all advisors at the guest house. The meeting, akin to a cabinet session, addressed the recent violence targeting Hindus, the future direction of Bangladesh, and efforts to restore peace. This marked the first significant meeting since Sheikh Hasina reportedly resigned as Prime Minister this month.

Besides Hindu community members, other Bangladeshi residents with missing family members staged demonstrations. They demanded assurances of safety from Prof Yunus, who had recently visited the Dhakeshwari Temple to assure minorities of their security. Yunus urged for unity and equal rights, emphasizing the need to fix institutional arrangements to prevent further issues.

A meeting between Muslim and Hindu community representatives followed Yunus's temple visit, fostering dialogue on communal harmony. Amid a volatile political scene, Yunus’s outreach is seen as an effort to ease tensions. Protests also emerged in international cities like Toronto and London.
