On Saturday, Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Bangladesh government, participated in the third Voice of Global South Summit, addressing geopolitical challenges, climate change, and Bangladesh's current situation. The summit, hosted virtually by India, drew numerous leaders discussing their national contexts and global issues.

Responding to questions, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar noted it would be inappropriate to elaborate on Yunus's remarks but mentioned Yunus greeted India's Prime Minister on their Independence Day. He touched on pressing global issues and the state of affairs in Bangladesh.

Jaishankar added that several leaders shared insights on their national circumstances beyond global topics. Violent protests in Bangladesh have reportedly led to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation and her departure from the country. Minority attacks prompted assurances of protection.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conversed with Prof. Muhammad Yunus on Friday, reaffirming India's support for a democratic and stable Bangladesh while emphasizing the protection of minority communities. Yunus assured prioritization of safety and security for all minority groups under the Interim Government.

The conversation also focused on advancing bilateral relations in alignment with national priorities. The Global South Summit, inspired by PM Modi's vision of inclusive growth and the philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' aims to foster unity among Global South nations. India initiated the VOGSS in January 2023, conducting the first two summits virtually.
