Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in an in-depth discussion with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday focusing on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Modi shared insights from his recent visits to Ukraine and Poland, emphasizing the necessity of dialogue and diplomacy for a peaceful resolution.

This conversation with the Russian leader came on the heels of Modi's telephonic discussion with US President Joe Biden. During their call, Modi briefed Biden on India's perspective from the recent Ukraine visit, reiterating the importance of diplomatic dialogue as India's consistent position.

Both leaders also reviewed bilateral progress and considered measures to enhance the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. Furthermore, they exchanged views on various regional and global issues of mutual concern.

According to a release from the Prime Minister's Office, the leaders agreed on the importance of practical engagement between all stakeholders to secure lasting peace. They also resolved to keep the lines of communication open.

Modi reaffirmed this commitment in a post on X, detailing the exchange with President Putin and underscoring India's dedication to achieving an early and peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Notably, Modi's visit to Ukraine on August 23 marked a historic first by an Indian Prime Minister to the country. During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Modi stressed India's unwavering support for peace through dialogue.

He articulated India's readiness to take an active role in fostering peace, reaffirming that the nation has always stood on the side of peace. The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine began in February 2022.
