Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, addressed an Indian diaspora event in Dallas, Texas, where he stated that no one in India fears the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the recent Lok Sabha election results.
Gandhi criticized the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for believing India is one idea, contrasting this with the Congress's belief in a plurality of ideas. He emphasized that the Constitution supports diversity in caste, language, religion, tradition, and history.
Highlighting his parliamentary speech on 'Abhayamudra' as a symbol of fearlessness, Gandhi said the BJP found it difficult to comprehend. He also remarked on the immediate post-election disappearance of fear among Indians regarding the BJP, crediting it as a significant democratic achievement.
Speaking to the diaspora, Gandhi underscored their contribution as ambassadors of Indian values such as respect and humility in the US. He called them a bridge between the two nations and stressed the future significance of the India-US relationship.
During his three-day US visit, Gandhi was welcomed at Dallas airport by Sam Pitroda, Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, and members of the Indian diaspora.
