Karachi's Growing Gas Crisis: Temporary Suspension Announced

Karachi is grappling with a worsening gas crisis as the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) reveals plans for a temporary supply suspension in parts of the city. According to SSGC, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project necessitates the relocation of a gas pipeline near Safora Chowrangi.

SSGC's spokesperson specified that gas supply will halt from 11 PM to 4 AM in Gulistan-e-Johar Blocks 1, 2, 3, 14, and 15, as well as the surrounding suburbs. The suspension exacerbates an already severe gas shortage plaguing Karachi, prompted by an SSGC system deficit.

ARY News reported widespread instances of low gas pressure, with many residents turning to wood stoves for cooking. Leaky gas meters and pipelines further provoke frustration among residential and commercial users. Additionally, a Saturday night power outage at the Nimat Busal plant compounded the city’s gas supply woes. Residents have voiced numerous complaints about the protracted shortages disrupting daily life.
