Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a plea to Beijing for restraint, urging an end to military provocations that threaten Taiwan's security, and emphasizing the importance of maintaining the regional status quo. This call comes amid rising tensions as China's military activities intensify around the island.
The Ministry reiterated its call for China to acknowledge the existence of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and respect its democratic ethos and way of life. MOFA expressed willingness to collaborate with China for regional security and peace, pointing out the international consensus for dialogue-driven solutions.
Highlighting the joint responsibility to sustain peace in the Taiwan Strait, the Ministry conveyed gratitude for the support from global allies, including the US, UK, and other countries who have voiced concerns over China's military maneuvers. It urged continuous global vigilance and support for Taiwan's efforts to maintain the rules-based international order.
