In response to last week's tragic killing of 21 coal miners by militants, the Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) held a protest in Duki town, Balochistan, as reported by the Dawn on Sunday. Leading the demonstration were Nawab Ayaz Khan Jogezai and Abdul Rahim Ziaratwal, with a strong turnout of miners and party supporters.
The protesters marched through Duki's streets, bearing placards, banners, and party flags, loudly condemning the violent attack on miners. Nawab Jogezai, addressing the gathering, highlighted the ongoing struggles of the Pashtun community, contrasting their daily fight for survival and safety with the global focus on prosperity, the Dawn noted.
Jogezai shed light on the perilous working conditions coal miners face, pointing to a lack of safety regulations as a major issue in one of the nation's most hazardous industries. He also expressed alarm over widespread extortion in local orchards, despite the visible presence of security personnel, as reported by the Dawn.
Critiquing the current security setup, Jogezai stated, "Despite contributing over 75% of their budget to defense, these people still pay security fees per tonne of coal." (ANI)
