In response to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's directive, Dubai Humanitarian has swiftly mobilized relief supplies for Lebanon's conflict-affected populace. The relief package, provided by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), weighs in at 192 metric tonnes. Utilizing land transport ensures the delivery of a substantial amount of aid.
A convoy of 27 trucks, backed by Dubai Humanitarian's Global Humanitarian Impact Fund, set out on 4 November to expedite the distribution of aid to Lebanon's stricken communities. The mission is crucial, especially with winter approaching, and intensifying the urgency for humanitarian actions. "Under Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's guidance, Dubai is steadfast in supporting Lebanon in its hour of need," remarked His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Chairman of Dubai Humanitarian.
Khaled Khalifa, UNHCR's Senior Advisor and Gulf Cooperation Council Representative, expressed gratitude for the UAE's persistent humanitarian endeavors. He highlighted that the aid shipment, part of the UAE's partnership with Dubai Humanitarian, is tailored to meet the immediate needs of displaced families facing the harsh Lebanese winter. According to Lebanon's government, more than 1.2 million people have been displaced by conflict, primarily due to escalating Israeli airstrikes.
As humanitarian needs surge, the relief effort's priorities include securing safe shelters, healthcare, cash assistance, protection, and psychosocial support. However, resources remain inadequate, highlighting the urgent need for additional funding to tackle the crisis effectively, according to involved relief organizations.
