North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has sent New Year greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling for increased partnership amid the ongoing Ukraine conflict. As reported by Al Jazeera and citing North Korea's state news agency KCNA, Kim conveyed his hopes for stronger ties between Pyongyang and Moscow.
In the letter marking the New Year, Kim referred to Putin as his "dearest friend and comrade," extending his best wishes to the Russian leader, its citizens, and military forces. He expressed his desire for Russia's success against Ukraine, against what he termed "neo-Nazism," along with plans for new joint projects in 2024.
Amid escalating military engagements, North Korean troops have reportedly been seen in Russia's Kursk Oblast, raising international tensions. U.S. officials have confirmed the deployment, estimating around 11,000 North Korean personnel active. Reports also emerged of North Korean soldiers killed in action while fighting alongside Russian forces.
