European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's visit to India highlights a significant moment in India-EU relations, with New Delhi seeking to enhance cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) and Indo-Pacific security. The historic visit marks the first trip of the entire EU College of Commissioners to India, signifying the importance of the partnership.
Discussions during the visit will focus on strengthening AI collaboration both bilaterally and at the EU level. This coincides with India's recent efforts to advance its technological capabilities, as showcased by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent engagement with global leaders. The MEA underscored synergies in AI as a key area of mutual interest, along with Indo-Pacific security.
The visit also sets the stage for intensified cooperation across multiple sectors, from trade and investments to digital technologies and sustainable urbanization. A significant focus will be on the Ministerial Meeting of the Trade and Technology Council, which will delve into three pillars of cooperation: Digital and Strategic Technologies, Clean and Green Technologies, and resilient trade, investment, and supply chains.
