Governor Kotaro Nagasaki of Yamanashi Prefecture is spearheading initiatives to deepen Japan-India relations, emphasizing green hydrogen energy, human resource exchanges, and cultural cooperation. Located at Mt. Fuji's base, Yamanashi is capitalizing on its pristine environment to advance green hydrogen technology.
The prefecture's strides include the establishment of "Yamanashi Hydro Company," a leader in hydrogen production technology, and a strategic collaboration with Uttar Pradesh. The December 2024 MoU outlines avenues for business development and human resource exchanges, facilitated by an Indian consultant.
Aimed at broadening mutual opportunities, Nagasaki envisions recruiting Indian engineers and offering educational avenues for Indian students at Yamanashi University. To support Indian professionals in Japan, comprehensive medical insurance plans are in preparation.
Beyond economic initiatives, Nagasaki is keen on boosting cultural ties by proposing Yamanashi for Bollywood film locations and highlighting its samurai heritage in Indian cinema. Additionally, he plans a diplomatic meeting between Japanese governors and Indian state leaders, such as Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, to fortify regional cooperation.
Nagasaki's expansive approach seeks to establish a robust Indo-Japanese partnership, laying the groundwork for shared growth and innovation through these diverse initiatives.
