Sharks D Karlsson out next two games
San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson will miss the next two games with a lower-body injury, coach Peter DeBoer told reporters on Monday. Karlsson also missed Saturday's loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning. He will sit out Monday's game against the Florida Panthers and Tuesday's contest versus the Washington Capitals.
The 28-year-old Karlsson could end up pulling out of Saturday's NHL All-Star Game in San Jose, but DeBoer hopes he will recover in time to be part of the festivities. "I just want to get him healthy, so if he's healthy enough, I would hope he'll play," DeBoer said of the All-Star Game. "And I know he would play. Let's cross our fingers and hope that he's healthy enough to play."
Karlsson has 43 points (three goals, 40 assists) in 47 games this season. Karlsson has played in five previous All-Star Games in his 10-year career, the others with the Ottawa Senators. Karlsson was acquired from the Senators in September.
He is one of three Sharks named to the All-Star team, along with forward Joe Pavelski and defenseman Brent Burns. --Field Level Media
