Tehran has announced a new joint venture with Russia to construct eight nuclear power plants, in line with efforts to boost clean energy production. The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) shared this development, underlining the country's commitment to a "peaceful nuclear program" with no intentions of developing weapons.
According to Iranian news outlet Tasnim, the agreement includes erecting four nuclear plants in Bushehr, with the remainder distributed along Iran's northern and southern coastlines. These projects are part of a plan to enhance Iran’s electricity generation to 20,000 megawatts of nuclear-generated energy.
Additional statements by Russian media TASS relay plans for a nuclear plant in Golestan, while another in Khuzestan sees resumed activity from pre-1979 Islamic Revolution times. Iran's President Pezeshkian reiterated their peaceful nuclear intentions despite renewed tensions following Israel’s airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, a conflict escalated with the US joining the fray.
