In a significant development, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar characterized the longstanding relationship between India and Russia as one of the most resilient global alliances in modern history. Speaking at the HT Leadership Summit 2025, Jaishankar highlighted the transformative nature of Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent visit to India, emphasizing the reimagining of bilateral ties by addressing economic aspects that have historically lagged.

The minister pointed out that while India has seen remarkable growth in its economic relationships with the United States and Europe, certain areas such as defense and security have not developed at the same pace. In contrast, the India-Russia partnership has maintained a steady trajectory over the past 78 years, despite global geopolitical shifts. Jaishankar remarked on the unique popular sentiment toward Russia in India, underscoring the stability of their diplomatic engagement.

Jaishankar further elaborated on significant agreements concluded during Putin's visit. Among these was a pivotal mobility agreement, set to boost job opportunities for Indian workers in Russia, and a strategic collaboration on fertilizers. This initiative is particularly crucial for India, the world's second-largest importer of fertilizers, and aims to bolster food security. Additionally, both countries committed to enhancing partnerships in education and science, underpinning their longstanding cooperation with new momentum in joint projects and academic exchanges.
