Saudi Arabian air defenses decisively intercepted a coordinated aerial assault targeting the strategic Shaybah oil field and other key sites early Saturday. According to Arab News, the Ministry of Defence confirmed the successful neutralization of 16 drones, launched in a series of four waves, over the Empty Quarter.

Defense Ministry spokesperson Major General Turki Al-Maliki revealed that a ballistic missile and a cruise missile aimed at the Prince Sultan Air Base in Al-Kharj were also intercepted. Another drone was downed east of Riyadh, marking the third consecutive day of strikes on Al-Kharj.

This latest assault on Shaybah field—the first since February 28—comes amid heightened tensions following a massive US-Israeli air campaign against Iran, triggering retaliatory strikes on Gulf infrastructure. Saudi officials have vowed to take appropriate measures to defend against this surge in regional threats.
