Strengthening Ties: Italy and India's Defence Collaboration Soars
Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto's visit to India highlights the strengthening defence ties between the two nations. His meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh aims to explore defence cooperation, further helped by the India-EU Defence & Strategic Partnership. The partnership emphasizes industrial collaboration, maritime security, and regional stability.
Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto paid tribute at the National War Memorial and reviewed the Guard of Honour on Thursday, marking a significant step in Italy-India defence relations. Concurrently, he engaged in substantive discussions with Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at the Manekshaw Centre.
The bilateral talks between the two ministers are set to explore a broad spectrum of subjects, focusing on enhancing defence cooperation. The discussions align with the intensified momentum in India-Italy defence relations, particularly following Singh's visit to Rome in October 2023, signaling a mutual intent to amplify cooperation in new domains, especially industrial partnerships.
The landmark India-EU Defence & Strategic Partnership, signed in January 2026, further cements strategic alignment, driving defence industrial collaboration. This agreement adds significant momentum to service-to-service interactions, training, and technology sharing. This budding relationship highlights increased cooperation in maritime security and counterterrorism.
