Former top Chinese general sentenced to life over corruption charges

Fang Fenghui, former top Chinese general who was facing charges for corruption, has been sentenced to life imprisonment, Chinese state media said on Wednesday.

Xinhua reported that Fenghui, former chief of joint staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), was convicted of obtaining and giving bribes and receiving huge amounts of money of unknown origin.

According to South China Morning Post, all assets owned by Fang were confiscated. However, the report did not disclose the amount of money involved in the case.

Fenghui, who joined the army at the age of 16 in 1968, was once the youngest commander of a PLA military region. He was described as an "opportunist" by military insiders. (ANI)
