US Lawmakers Unite Against China's Threats to Taiwan: A Bipartisan Resolution
US lawmakers have introduced a bipartisan resolution expressing concerns over China's threats towards Taiwan, emphasizing peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The resolution calls for strengthening deterrence in the Indo-Pacific, protecting American interests, and supporting allies, framed around an upcoming summit between President Trump and Xi Jinping.
US lawmakers from both parties have unveiled a resolution voicing apprehension over China's aggressive posture towards Taiwan, underscoring the urgent need for peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. This development comes ahead of a significant summit planned for later this month between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, as reported by Taipei Times.
Championed by Democratic Senators Jeanne Shaheen, Chris Coons, and Republican Senator Pete Ricketts, the resolution reflects a unified stance on the burgeoning threats China poses to US national security and economic interests. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee outlined the need for a consistent focus on bolstering deterrence in the Indo-Pacific, safeguarding American workforce interests from unfair practices, advancing AI and emerging technologies, and reaffirming commitments to allies and democratic values.
The resolution further criticizes China's military expansion and its impact on freedom of navigation in strategic waterways like the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea, asserting that Beijing's tactics undermine regional stability. It also highlights China's ongoing efforts to exclude Taiwan from international platforms. Citing a committee statement, Ricketts urged vigilance against 'Communist China's' threats, reaffirming US solidarity with threatened partners and allies. According to Taipei Times, Trump is set to visit China on May 14 and 15 for a pivotal summit with Xi, their first since their last meeting in Busan, South Korea, in October last year. (ANI)
