Russian President Vladimir Putin has firmly supported India's strategic autonomy, asserting that any Western threats of sanctions would backfire and highlighting India's consistent adherence to its national interests. At the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin praised India's robust international engagements under Prime Minister Modi's leadership.
President Putin stressed that India's ability to choose products that offer the best value is unhindered, reiterating Russia's commitment to its bilateral cooperation with New Delhi, despite geopolitical pressures. He emphasized that Moscow remains true to its commitments and cannot be dictated by external forces.
Highlighting the global economic shift, Putin noted that the BRICS economic bloc has surpassed the G7 in economic volume, lauding India as a crucial partner in this evolving landscape. He pointed out India’s significant contributions to the global IT and software sectors, projecting optimistic growth for BRICS compared to Western economies.
