India and Russia Lead BRICS in Pioneering University Ranking System

India and Russia are co-developing a university ranking system, potentially expanding to all BRICS nations, aiming to bolster regional technological cooperation and innovation. Initial trials will occur between India and Russia, with an eventual rollout across the BRICS community to enhance educational and technological collaboration.

In an ambitious endeavor, India and Russia are collaborating on a pioneering university-level ranking system that could revolutionize education across the BRICS countries. Debjit Chakraborty, Director of the Chamber for Indo-Russo Technology Collaboration, revealed the initiative in an exclusive interview at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Partnering with a top Moscow-based university, the ranking system will first be piloted in India and Russia before a broader BRICS rollout. This project is part of wider efforts by the Indo-Russia Innopraktika Technology Hub to foster technological products and institutional collaborations, enhancing cooperation in advanced sectors such as AI, cybersecurity, health technology, and more.

Chakraborty emphasized that the collaboration aims to build indigenous technological capabilities, reducing reliance on external systems. Successful solutions could be adopted across other BRICS nations and the Global South, promoting a comprehensive BRICS+ community. The initiative also holds promise for boosting innovation-led partnerships and creating a shared educational ecosystem extending to Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
