Swift Response Ensures Safety: MT Jalveer Crew Evacuated After Ship Fire Near Oman
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways confirmed no casualties in a maritime incident involving the bitumen tanker MT Jalveer near Oman's Shinas port. Smoke was detected in the engine room, prompting evacuation efforts. Coordinated efforts are underway involving the Indian Navy and local authorities for the safe evacuation of crew members.
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways reported a maritime security incident involving the bitumen tanker MT Jalveer off Oman's coast, where smoke from a fire was detected in the engine room. Thankfully, no casualties or injuries have been reported.
On June 11th, the Guinea-Bissau-flagged vessel, carrying 20 Indian seafarers, faced this critical situation near Shinas port. While evacuation is ongoing, six crew members are still awaiting evacuation to the port.
Mukesh Mangal, Additional Secretary of the Ministry, detailed ongoing coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian Navy, and local agencies to resolve the situation. The DG Shipping control room continues to manage communications, having processed thousands of calls and emails from concerned parties.
Efforts for the safe evacuation are also backed by the Royal Navy of Oman, as highlighted by the Indian Embassy in Oman through its social media platforms.
MT Jalveer, a tanker flying the Guinean flag, stretches 119.95 meters in length and 16.84 meters in width as per Marinetraffic tracking.
