Himachal Pradesh Industries Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan mourned the death of Indian seafarer Aditya Sharma in what is believed to be an assault on the MT Settebello, a Palau-flagged vessel, near the Strait of Hormuz. Calling it a tragic loss for the state, Chauhan voiced concerns about the conflict's broad impact.
Out of the 24 Indian crew members aboard the vessel, 21 were rescued, but three lost their lives, including Sharma, who hailed from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. In a discussion with ANI, Chauhan emphasized governmental efforts to repatriate Sharma’s remains and monitor trade and fuel implications stemming from the conflict.
He stressed that the regional chaos has disrupted global trade routes, affecting raw material imports and pushing fuel prices upwards, impacting industries. While no immediate fuel shortages are expected in Himachal Pradesh, Chauhan warned of potential long-term economic ramifications if tensions persist.
