Mexico boosts sterile fly dispersal as US reopens cattle trade

MEXICO CITY, Aug ​24 - ​Mexican Agriculture ‌Minister Columba Lopez ​said on Monday that ‌the country will reinforce the dispersal of sterile flies in ‌the states of Sonora ‌and Chihuahua to contain the flesh-eating New World screwworm parasite ⁠as ​the U.S. ⁠will begin a phased reopening ⁠to Mexican livestock.

The U.S. Department ​of Agriculture announced is ⁠expected to lift its ban on ⁠imports ​of Mexican cattle that it imposed more than ⁠a year ago, beginning with ⁠ports ⁠in Arizona and later New Mexico.
