Ukraine's anti-corruption police search central bank, governor says no link to bank activity
Ukraine's anti-corruption police said on Wednesday that detectives were searching the National Bank of Ukraine and the home of one of its employees, but the bank's governor said the search was not to connected to the central bank's work.
The anti-corruption police (NABU) said in a statement on the Telegram app that no one had been detained or issued a suspicion notice. Central bank chairman Andriy Pyshnyi, writing later on Facebook, said the search operation had nothing to do with the bank's activity or his own stewardship of the bank.
"The investigation was looking for evidence in a case related to other circumstances and individuals," Pyshnyi wrote. "Based on the results of the searches, nothing was found that could indicate that I or any NBU employees committed any offenses."
Pyshnyi said he was ready to work with investigators within the confines of the law and stressed the central bank's independence and capacity to act, "especially in wartime, when the stability of the financial system is critically important for the country".
