Carey Price set the Montreal franchise record for most wins by a goalie, Max Domi scored two goals, and the host Canadiens defeated the reeling Detroit Red Wings for the ninth consecutive time, 3-1 decision Tuesday. With his 315th regular-season victory, Price supplanted Jacques Plante for the team mark. He made 20 saves as the Canadiens completed a sweep of the four-game season series by a 21-7 aggregate score.

Brett Kulak collected the other goal for Montreal while Tomas Tatar recorded two assists. Andreas Athanasiou scored the only goal for the Red Wings, who have lost 11 of their last 12 games (1-8-3). Jonathan Bernier made 33 saves. The Red Wings played without leading scorer Dylan Larkin for the fourth consecutive game due to a neck strain. Detroit defenseman Jonathan Ericsson suffered a lower-body injury in the first period and did not return. Both teams were awarded two power plays, but no goals were scored in those situations.

The Canadiens outshot the Wings 13-6 in the first period, but the game remained scoreless. Montreal finally broke through at 12:27 of the second period when Andrew Shaw took a shot from the right boards that Domi redirected past Bernier. Domi's 23rd goal was also assisted by ex-Red Wing Tatar. Kulak scored his fourth goal at 17:32 of the middle period with a blast from the point after a Tatar feed.

Brendan Gallagher got the second assist. Detroit scored 40 seconds into the third period to cut Montreal's lead to 2-1. Athanasiou gathered in a pass near the blue line and fought his way between two defenders to fire a shot past Price. Trevor Daley and Niklas Kronwall were credited with assists. The Redf Wings' Tyler Bertuzzi had a breakaway midway through the final period, but Price made a pad save. Domi scored an empty-net goal in the final minute to clinch Montreal's victory. Jordan Weal and Shea Weber were credited with assists.
