Oklahoma City star Russell Westbrook has been suspended one game without pay after drawing his 16th technical foul of the season during Saturday's 110-88 home loss to Golden State. NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Kiki VanDeWeghe announced the punishment Sunday and Westbrook will sit out Monday's game against the visiting Miami Heat.
Westbrook picked up his latest technical with 3:29 remaining in the second quarter against the Warriors. Under NBA rules, there is an automatic one-game, unpaid suspension after a player or coach reaches 16 technical fouls. For every two additional technical fouls that season, the offender is automatically suspended for an additional game.
An eight-time All-Star, Westbrook is averaging 22.9 points, 11.1 rebounds and 10.5 assists in 62 games this season.
